In November 2011, Tamesis Chamber Choir gave a concert, ‘A Time to Mourn’, to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. Such was the audience’s emotional response that the choir decided to record a CD. The result, ‘Remembrance’, was released earlier this month, with all profits going to ABF The Soldier’s Charity.
The dominant work on the disc is Bob Chilcott’s Requiem of 2010; Tamesis has a longstanding relationship with the composer, having performed his Spirituals on its first recording in 2009. Other works include the first UK recording of Eleanor Daley’s In Remembrance, Rupert G Lang’s The Kontakion and Funeral Sentences by Purcell. The choir, based in Reading, Berkshire, is joined on the disc by instrumentalists, organ and brass quartet.
‘The link to the armed forces in our programme is clear,’ said a spokesperson for Tamesis. ‘We have enjoyed working with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and learning more about the invaluable support they provide to serving and retired soldiers and their families.’
‘Remembrance’ is available to buy via iTunes, Amazon or through the Tamesis Chamber Choir website.
